Enriching Local Curriculum

We are proud to be a Ministry of Education selected provider - this project is partly funded by the Ministry of Education.

We are keen to work with iwi, hapu, leaders, teachers and kaiako to co-construct and tailor learning that is designed to enrich your local curriculum.

Our project team works right across Aotearoa with no school or ECE too small!

What is the 'Telling Your Stories' project?

This project will allow communities access to storytelling by providing schools/Kāhui Ako with a long-lasting resource that will:

• Support the enactment of their local curriculum
• Provide authentic access to local history through Te Whāriki and the NZC
• Strengthen and grow relationships between learners, local iwi, hapū, local community and events from the past.

This project draws on extensive research and provides a link between authentic local stories and the ancient craft of kōrero tuku iho. The project aims to facilitate a partnership between manawhenua and schools/ECE/Kāhui Ako so they can access stories that are specific to landscape, place and people or provide context for school histories, distinguished alumni or stories of special character.

Our vision is to authentically, respectfully and accurately link local stories to learners while simultaneously weaving them across curricula.

For more information, download an overview of the 'Telling Your Stories' project by clicking here!

What will you get from the project?

  • A local story that the school can be confident has been shared in consultation and co-construction with local iwi/hapū

  • A specific outline of the use, purpose and protocols surrounding the story. This story is not to be shared outside of the school without the express permission of the local iwi/hapu

  • A version of the story that can be in included into the local curriculum document that has been co-constructed with all stakeholders

  • Soft copy image sequence that supports the retell of the story

  • A video of the launch retell

  • A story resource in Te Reo Māori (video voice over on images) and Te Reo Pakeha with NZ sign translation (video voice over on images)

  • A pedagogy resource that will support teachers to plan for the integration of the story across the curriculum
