About the event
About the Workshop
Oral language is the foundation of early literacy and plays a critical role in children’s overall learning and development. In this interactive workshop, kaiako and leaders will explore the key components of early literacy, with a strong focus on how rich oral language experiences support communication, confidence, and learning progression. Participants will examine how everyday interactions, storytelling, and conversations create meaningful opportunities for language development within early childhood settings.
Through practical examples and discussion, this session supports kaiako to strengthen intentional literacy teaching practices. Participants will explore how to recognise and respond to indicators of literacy progression, and how to embed literacy-rich experiences across daily routines and play-based learning. The workshop aligns with the Kōwhiti Whakapae framework, supporting reflective practice and intentional teaching to ensure literacy learning is visible, purposeful, and responsive.
