I'm an experienced teacher, consultant and trainer who has worked in New Zealand and the UK. Over the past 25 years, I have facilitated literacy training and school-based professional learning in Aotearoa and internationally, as well as delivering keynote presentations at national conferences. I was the Literacy Strategy Manager in Hackney, London (1997 – 2005), and led the National Literacy Strategy (the building blocks of a structured literacy approach) and was the New Zealand trainer for Smart Words (a programme rooted on the science of reading).

I am the co-author of The Writing Book, The Oral Language Book, The Reading Book, and The Poetry Book.

I strive to improve literacy outcomes for students by providing teachers with quality training and resources.
