About the Workshop
This in-person workshop supports kaiako to strengthen the connection between planning, assessment, and internal evaluation within a tamariki-led curriculum. Participants will explore how to intentionally plan for literacy and mathematical thinking within play-based contexts, ensuring learning opportunities are meaningful, visible, and responsive to children’s interests. The session will focus on recognising and assessing early literacy learning, with an emphasis on strengthening the quality and purpose of learning stories as tools for documenting progression.
Kaiako will also be introduced to the internal evaluation cycle and how evidence can be used to inform curriculum decisions and improve outcomes for tamariki. Through practical examples and guided reflection, participants will explore how to document literacy progression, identify next steps in learning, and develop action plans aligned with Te Whāriki.
