DAY ONE OF THREE
This one-day professional learning and development (PLD) event provides an introduction to Structured Literacy, an evidence-based approach to teaching reading and writing. Participants will explore the science of reading, including the neuroscience behind literacy development, the stages of reading acquisition, and the Five Big Ideas in Beginning Reading (National Center on Improving Literacy, 2023).
The session will cover the principles and methodology of Structured Literacy, focusing on:
The transition from conscious decoding to fluent reading
The connection between reading and spelling
The role of orthographic mapping in long-term literacy development
