Anna Houston
Consultant
Anna has a strong understanding of the Science of Learning and Reading, with experience as a primary school teacher, youth worker, and principal of a private secondary school for at-risk ākonga. She has also led two large RTLB clusters and worked extensively as a Literacy Facilitator.
She brings a structured approach to literacy that is both formative and responsive. Her lived experience as an English Language Learner, alongside supporting whānau with dyslexia, has shaped her practice and fuels her passion for ensuring all ākonga thrive as lifelong readers and learners.
Over the past five years, Anna has supported schools to build knowledge of structured literacy and the science that underpins it. She has designed and implemented structured literacy approaches tailored for older ākonga, from Year 5 through to secondary school, and has extensive expertise in assessment, particularly for learners in Tiers Two and Three, including those working at pre-Level One of the New Zealand Curriculum.
