About the event
About the Workshop
Early literacy is a critical foundation for lifelong learning and is deeply embedded within the principles and strands of Te Whāriki. This workshop supports kaiako and educators to strengthen their understanding of early literacy development, including oral language, vocabulary growth, and emergent literacy. Participants will explore how intentional teaching practices and rich interactions create meaningful opportunities for children to develop communication skills within everyday play and routines.
Through practical strategies and discussion, this online session focuses on creating language-rich environments that support tamariki-led learning across both indoor and outdoor contexts. Kaiako will consider how to respond to diverse learners and ensure literacy experiences are culturally responsive, inclusive, and reflective of children’s identities. The workshop emphasises how intentional, responsive teaching can support literacy progression while maintaining a strong focus on children’s interests, strengths, and ways of learning.
