Strengthening Literacy Foundations

This professional learning and development (PLD), focusing on ensuring all learners have the strong literacy foundations needed to access Phase 2 and 3 teaching sequence skills. The workshop explores strategies for explicit instruction in phonics, morphology, handwriting, reading fluency, vocabulary, and writing development, with targeted support for at-risk learners.


Key areas of focus include:

  • Phonics and Morphology – Reviewing the phonics scope and sequence, deepening understanding of morphology, and identifying gaps in decoding and spelling to plan explicit teaching.

  • Handwriting and Automaticity – Understanding the importance of fine motor skills, effective letter formation techniques, and handwriting assessment.
